New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Brian Osborne wrote to parents on Friday announcing that the district would be prioritizing the centralization of school registration, including re-registration process requiring parents and guardians to re-affirm that their children are eligible for enrollment in the district’s schools at certain points in their school careers.

The announcement comes in the wake of three violent incidents involving New Rochelle High School students, including the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Valaree Schwab, allegedly by fellow student Z’inah Brown, who was a Yonkers resident attending the high school.

“Please be assured that City School District of New Rochelle Board of Education and Administration place the safety of your children as our highest and most critically important priority,” Osborne said. “We will continue to communicate our efforts to you on this through ongoing communication and public meetings.”
